Located just north of The Palm Beaches, the Palmer Course at Tesoro Club has drawn both golf and nature enthusiasts to the Club’s exclusive golfing lifestyle. Having hosted two PGA Tour Qualifying events (and with more planned for the future), the course has emerged as a sought-after destination for those desiring championship-level play in a serene environment. Leading the charge is Head Golf Professional Matt Doyle, instrumental in elevating Tesoro Club’s course to PGA-level status.
A PGA Class “A” Member and award-winning golf professional since 1997, Matt Doyle has had a passion for golf since the age of three. After a decade of tournament play and a trophy case filled with accolades, Doyle shifted to the country club world. From caddie and membership salesman to eventually Director of Golf, he showed his dedication to the sport and its Members at The Dye Preserve Golf Club, Turtle Creek Golf Club, and The Misquamicut Club. At Tesoro Club, Doyle has overseen the Palmer Course renovations and crafted an intricate golf program for Members. What Updates Were Made to the Course and Driving Range Last Summer?
“We took a very aggressive approach to re-establishing our Bermuda grass fairways. All the hard work we put in last summer is paying off now. The golf course is in fabulous condition and the greens are rolling great. We also did a full renovation of the driving range. There are 19 different targets out there at a variety of different yardages. Someone who’s a real ardent golfer can be on our driving range and practice every single shot in the bag. Additionally, we re-established the lesson tee at the back of the range with a green and a bunker, which is great for private instruction. I tried to design it like it was my own practice facility, adding as many targets as possible into the scoring zone so I could shoot lower scores. It’s been well received by Members as a place where you can concentrate on your game without distractions.”
What Events Have Members Enjoyed This Season?
“We just held a second complimentary clinic for our full Membership, including Social Members. This is an opportunity for everyone to see the facility, meet the team, and create a community environment where everyone feels comfortable hitting the greens. We also have a full tournament schedule with Members, Member Guests, a Club Championship, and more. The momentum for the Club and community is growing, and it’s just such a pleasure to see. It’s a beautiful property and our owners put in a lot of hard work. To see all this work paying off just brings a lot of joy to my heart. I can see it on the faces of the golfers and the people living in the community too, especially the ones that have been here through the entire journey of Tesoro Club.”
What PGA Tour Events Have Been Hosted at Tesoro Club?
Is the Palmer Course Playable for Beginners?
“Yes, we have beginners and short-hitters that enjoy the course. Our front tees are designed for somebody who hits their driver 140 yards. We have players all the way in the front on our red course enjoying the golf and the beauty of the property. You hit the golf ball and have a good time, but a lot of people just enjoy seeing Tesoro Club’s natural beauty and expansive waterways. Beginners love it. Tour pros love it. The challenge is there, but if you play the set of tees that you’re supposed to play, everybody loves the Palmer Course.”
How About Junior Golfers?
What Sets Tesoro Club Apart from Other Private Club Communities?
“One of the beauties of Tesoro Club is we have an abundance of tee times available. We are in a place where you call us before you come, and we will have everything set up for you. You can go to the driving range and warm up, or go right to the tee to play. It’s a very private, exclusive golf course. Members often say they feel like they had the whole course to themselves. The private golf club experience is very attractive to a lot of people coming to see the facility. Golf courses have gotten so crowded that you’re paying for a private golf club experience, but you have to make tee times like you’re at a resort or a public facility. We’re seeing a lot of those people come here so they don’t have to book their tee time two weeks or more in advance. They want to be able to get out of their house, drive over here, and play golf.”
As Head Golf Professional, What is Your Vision for the Future of Golf at Tesoro Club?
“The work that we’ve done over the last two years is going to continue this summer. We’re putting together an extensive plan to continue to enhance the Palmer Course. Next summer’s focus will be on our rough areas, cleaning those up to improve the course and deliver an even better product next season. It’ll be at another level next year from where it is this year. That’s my goal here. I try to oversee that project and make sure we’re doing all the right practices to create the best playing conditions for our Membership and our players. We’re committed to making this place reach the highest level of play and performance. It takes a lot of hard work over the summer, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
