Tesoro Club’s Championship Golf is Ready to Return to Glory

November 8, 2022 | Read Time: 6 minutes

The vision of Tesoro Club’s new ownership is coming to fruition. The community’s renaissance is well underway with the Swim & Racquet Club reopened, the Welcome Center open, and new home builders preparing to open decorated models this winter. The heart of this beautiful master-planned community is its two championship golf courses, which have been undergoing renovations over the past 18 months. Now, you can feel the excitement amongst golf enthusiasts on Florida’s east coast, as the Palmer course is now open for Full Golf Members and plans its grand reopening for January 2023.

Here’s a closer look at the Palmer course’s design update, and details on the exciting future ahead:

Championship Golf Designed by Legends

Designed to the exacting standards of golf legend Arnold Palmer, the Palmer course is a spectacular and dramatic anchor to Tesoro Club’s golf experience. The 7,333-yard, par-72 course has a high shot value, with challenging holes that require both club strength and accuracy. However, there’s always ways to navigate around these challenges, ensuring people of all skill levels can enjoy the course. Nature is an instrumental part of the course’s design, and players are rewarded with scenic views of wide-open fairways, freshwater lakes, and lush wetlands. The Palmer course was also an official host to the PGA tour’s 2007 Ginn sur Mer classic.

“The Palmer course takes your breath away,” shared Head Golf Professional Matthew Doyle. “The beauty, the waterways, the shots, the bunkering – it really is a spectacular golf course that really has a big wow factor to it. The 17th hole is personally my favorite hole on the course. It has an absolutely spectacular view of the green surrounded by the coquina and crushed concrete. And then it has an infinite view of the large lake that we are blessed to have here. It’s a hole that you do not see in Florida.”

A Full Golf Course Rehabilitation

When it came time to rehabilitate the Palmer course back to its legendary status, not a single detail was overlooked. Doyle and the ownership team sought the expert help of South Florida Golf Renovations LLC to bring the course back to its PGA standards. Led by Jon Beckmann, the company has over 40 years of experience renovating some of the area’s finest courses, including Palm Beach Country Club, High Ridge in Lantana, Admiral’s Cove in Jupiter, and Jonathan’s Landing Old Trail in Jupiter.

The project started with extensive improvements to the irrigation system to create optimal growing and playing conditions. A plan was then developed to give the greens their distinctive color, including heavy verticutting, top dressing, and over seeding with Poa Trivialis. The bunkers have also undergone restorations to bring them back to PGA standards, while rehabilitation projects on the bridges ensure golfers can ride throughout the course with ease.

From the very beginning, the ownership team has been extremely involved in ensuring the course stands out as a premier offering in South Florida. “The owners have been great to work with,” said Doyle. “They’ve been working diligently, investing in the property, and bringing back all the necessary tools that we need to do our jobs – all with the goal of becoming the premier golf facility in the area. I really enjoy working for them and me and my staff are going to give it our all to provide the service that they want and deserve.”

Full Golf Members Enjoy a Sneak Preview

For those who can’t wait until January to explore Tesoro Club’s newest championship golf course, a limited number of resident and non-resident Full Golf Memberships are now available. Full Golf Members will have access to the course during its soft opening phase this November and will be among the first to enjoy unlimited play on the course. Full Golf Members will also have access to PGA-level instruction at Tesoro Club’s world-class practice facilities, including a 360-yard driving range, short-game practice area, and 9,178 square-foot putting green.

“Our golf staff is ready and excited for the season,” said Doyle. “We’re looking forward to having a robust event schedule with clinic and instructional programs for players of all levels for men, ladies, and juniors. We’re going to be a community and we’re looking forward to getting out there and meeting the community and trying to get everybody hooked on golf.”

Renovations to the Watson Course Planned for the Future

Tesoro Club’s golf experience, however, doesn’t stop at the Palmer course. The visionary ownership team is currently working with Tom Watson Design to renovate Tesoro Club’s second championship golf course. Running along the east side of Tesoro Club, the Watson course is just one of three designed by Tom Watson throughout the state. The 7,019-yard par-72 course is much more tree-lined, creating a memorable round through pine forests, natural wetlands, and grasslands. The Watson course renovations are planned for the future.

“Both of the golf courses at Tesoro Club are very unique and different in their own ways, and they have different beauties,” said Doyle. “One (the Palmer course) with amazing waterways and one (the Watson course) through a grassland preserve and pine forest gives you two different styles of Florida. But to bring that lifestyle back to Tesoro Club, I’m just really looking forward to seeing the look on everybody’s faces when they’re blown away.”

A Coveted Golf Club That Exceeds Member Expectations

A remarkable golf experience is just the beginning of the excitement Tesoro Club will provide. The popular Swim & Racquet Club is also now open, featuring a resort-style swimming pool, nine tennis courts, and Cabanas, an upscale casual poolside dining venue. Eleven pickleball courts and two bocce lawns are also currently under construction. The landmark Clubhouse will offer Members salon and spa services, a golf pro shop, and social activities for Members to enjoy.

The team has also announced that two of the nation’s top home builders, WCI Communities and Toll Brothers, will provide an outstanding selection of residential options. A selection of custom home builders will also offer a limited collection of larger, more personalized homes. Spectacular golf, freshwater lakes and creeks, or wooded preserves are the standard for every residence, creating an enviable address focused on indoor/outdoor Florida living.
