Golf

As the center core of the community, The Palmer Course took first priority in the development plan. Over the past year, design renovations have been implemented and our agronomists have worked diligently to elevate the quality of the fairways and greens. The watershed infrastructure was completely rebuilt to enhance the lake levels and restore the quality of the natural wetlands. In addition, the wooden golf cart bridges, a signature element of the course, have also been rebuilt.

The iconic Clubhouse is also undergoing renovations, implemented in a phased approach. The upper two levels of the Club were updated and reopened over the summer of 2022. At the ground level, we have reopened the Fitness Center and Spa, with plans for additional expansion in the future. The Golf Pro Shop and the Terrace Grill are fully open, and welcoming new Members and guests to the community.

Two Championship Golf Courses Designed by Legends

Designed to the exacting standards of golf legends Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson, Tesoro Club’s two championship golf courses are spectacular and dramatic anchors to the community. The Palmer Course recently reopened, after an extensive 18-month renovation that improves both playability and scenic beauty. An official host to the PGA Tour’s 2007 Ginn Sur Mer Classic, the 7,333-yard, par-72 course has a high-shot value with challenging holes that require both club strength and accuracy. Nature is instrumental to the course’s design, and it’s common to spot native birds such as roseate spoonbills, and ibis, as well as turtles throughout the course. Tesoro Club’s golf experience, however, does not stop at the Palmer course. Tesoro Club’s second championship course, the Watson Course, is planned for completion in 2024.

“Both the Palmer and Watson course are unique in their own ways, providing two different styles of Florida golf,” shared Head Golf Professional Matthew Doyle. “The Palmer course is spectacular, with waterways, wide open spaces, bunkering, and shots that take your breath away. On the other hand, the Watson course will wind through pine forests and natural wetlands and grasslands to provide a completely different golf experience that you don’t often see in Florida.”

A Full Golf Course Rehabilitation

When it came time to rehabilitate the Palmer course back to its legendary status, not a single detail was overlooked. Doyle and the ownership team sought the expert help of South Florida Golf Renovations LLC to bring the course back to its PGA standards. Led by Jon Beckmann, the company has over 40 years of experience renovating some of the area’s finest courses, including Palm Beach Country Club, High Ridge in Lantana, Admiral’s Cove in Jupiter, and Jonathan’s Landing Old Trail in Jupiter.

The project started with extensive improvements to the irrigation system to create optimal growing and playing conditions. A plan was then developed to give the greens their distinctive color, including heavy verticutting, top dressing, and over seeding with Poa Trivialis. The bunkers have also undergone restorations to bring them back to PGA standards, while rehabilitation projects on the bridges ensure golfers can ride throughout the course with ease.

From the very beginning, the ownership team has been extremely involved in ensuring the course stands out as a premier offering in South Florida. “The owners have been great to work with,” said Doyle. “They’ve been working diligently, investing in the property, and bringing back all the necessary tools that we need to do our jobs – all with the goal of becoming the premier golf facility in the area. I really enjoy working for them and me and my staff are going to give it our all to provide the service that they want and deserve.”

Renovations to the Watson Course Planned for the Future

Tesoro Club’s golf experience, however, doesn’t stop at the Palmer course. The visionary ownership team is currently working with Tom Watson Design to renovate Tesoro Club’s second championship golf course. Running along the east side of Tesoro Club, the Watson course is just one of three designed by Tom Watson throughout the state. The 7,019-yard par-72 course is much more tree-lined, creating a memorable round through pine forests, natural wetlands, and grasslands. The Watson course restoration is planned for completion in 2024.

“Both of the golf courses at Tesoro Club are very unique and different in their own ways, and they have different beauties,” said Doyle. “One (the Palmer course) with amazing waterways and one (the Watson course) through a grassland preserve and pine forest gives you two different styles of Florida. But to bring that lifestyle back to Tesoro Club, I’m just really looking forward to seeing the look on everybody’s faces when they’re blown away.”

Tesoro Club on Florida’s Treasure Coast continues to capture attention in the sports and leisure world with the unveiling of its new Tennis & Racquet Program. On the heels of reopening its popular Swim & Racquet Club, the ownership team has announced Terri Gaskill as the Club’s new Tennis Director. A certified USPTA Elite Tennis Professional, Gaskill brings over 30 years of playing and teaching experience to Tesoro Club. The announcement represents another milestone in the Club’s exciting reopening plans. Meet Terri Gaskill, Tennis Director

terri gaskill headshot
Growing up, Gaskill was a natural-born athlete, and a three-sport standout in high school for soccer, basketball, and tennis. It wasn’t until college that she started focusing solely on tennis, receiving the first-ever tennis scholarship at James Madison University. There, she ranked nationally in singles and doubles all four years in the NCAA championships. After college, Gaskill completed in the professional satellite tour for two years before ultimately deciding to coach in the private club industry. Now, she shares her passion for tennis with others by building robust racquet programs for clubs along the Atlantic coast, including The Beach Club Palm Beach and Rehoboth Beach Country Club in Delaware.

Gaskill first met one of Tesoro Club’s visionary new owners while she was Tennis Director at The Beach Club. “We connected through tennis, and they asked me if I could bring my talents to their personal venture at Tesoro Club. I saw their vision for this beautiful Club, and I happily joined the team. My greatest desire is to see Tesoro Club finally realize its full potential. If anyone can make it happen, I know this team will see it through.”

Local Pro Luisa Subia Joins the Tesoro Club Team

While Gaskill oversaw Tesoro Club’s reopening plans over the summer months, she added Luisa Subia to the impressive roster of professionals on-hand to support Members. Originally from Ecuador, she began exploring her passion for tennis at a young age, playing South American cups and competitive tennis tournaments throughout the region. After coming to the US at 15, she continued to compete in states through high school and was Broward College’s first-ever regional tennis champion. After a car accident interrupted her plans, she took a short diversion into private banking. Her passion for tennis was brought back to center stage when her son became a tennis powerhouse, leading her back to the courts and to teaching. She laid the foundation for Martin County tennis, growing the program for all ages at five different locations.

“Being outdoors on the tennis courts has been my passion since I was a little girl,” said Subia. “I absolutely love walking onto the court and sprinkling my knowledge to others. After leaving Martin County tennis, I was looking to advance as a coach. I found the opportunity at Tesoro Club, with such beautiful surroundings and so many exciting things happening. It was a no-brainer to join the team.”

Tesoro Club’s Program Moves into Full Swing

After a summer filled with renovations at the Swim & Racquet Club, Tesoro Club’s nine Har-Tru tennis courts are now open and Subia’s day is filling up with lessons for Members of all skill levels. From adult leagues and private lessons to a growing junior program, Subia’s energetic personality and fresh perspective to the sport have naturally attracted residents and outside Members to train with her. Several of the courts are also lit for night play, allowing lessons to happen any time of day.

‘We are offering such an amazing junior program that as the kids are evolving and advancing at tennis, the parents and grandparents are falling in love with the sport also,” said Subia. “Then we find opportunities to get them also out on the courts and create a more social environment.”

Move Over Tennis, Pickleball is on the Rise

Embracing the surge in interest nationally for pickleball, Tesoro Club now has 11 pickleball courts under construction. In addition, two bocce ball lawns are also targeted for completion by the end of this year. As the courts reopen, Gaskill is creating a full racquet program that will continue to grow over time. Along with exceptional tennis instruction from Gaskill and Subia, a fully equipped racquet pro shop and a calendar of events and competitions are available to Members.

“Our programs will have something for everyone- whether it’s a four-year-old or a 94-year-old,” says Gaskill. “I’m very big on round robins and social mixers, and that’s been the base program of building an engaged Club environment. It’s a great way to meet, mix, and just create a sense of community.”
