Marco Schlenz in front of tesoro
As Marco Schlenz enters Tesoro Club, he is surrounded by bustling activity. Who will be the chef to lead our culinary operations? When will we be ready to open the Club’s golf courses? When will the Fitness Classes begin in the Fitness Center? Is construction of the pickleball courts on schedule?

As the Club’s new General Manager, Marco Schlenz has taken the helm. He’s making these decisions and hundreds more to cultivate the lifestyle of one of the area’s premier private clubs. A lifetime professional leading the way in both the culinary and hospitality industries, here’s a closer look at how Schlenz is leading the team to create an exciting future for this exceptional Florida golf club.

Tapping Into a Lifetime of Experience

From dishwasher and prep cook to corporate chef and country club general manager, Marco Schlenz brings hands-on experience and lessons learned to Tesoro Club. It’s no wonder the new ownership team led by Tim Jones recognized he was uniquely qualified to bring Tesoro Club to life. As a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Schlenz was the Director of Operations for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics bid in 1991 and holds dual Swiss-USA citizenship. He has operated a wide variety of dining venues from high-volume, multi-concept venues to small-scale operations.

Schlenz’s achievements, however, do not stop in the culinary world. After moving to Florida, he became the General Manager of The Dye Preserve in Jupiter and oversaw the design and construction of the Clubhouse. He has also overseen Club operations at President Country Club in West Palm Beach and St. Andrews in Boca Raton. Schlenz looks forward to bringing his expertise to help Tesoro Club go from concept to opening day.

“As the general manager, you’re in charge of everything from the front door to back door to all points in between,” said Schlenz. “I love the overall challenge of starting a club from scratch. Hiring all the department heads, staffing, setting up, concept designs – every decision has an impact on our success. Tesoro Club is a really big deal out here, and I can’t wait to surpass everyone’s expectations with our finished community.”

A Golf Club That Exceeds Member Expectations

Above all, one of the most important aspects of any club Schlenz operates is a dedication to surpassing Members’ expectations. Carefully curated by Schlenz and the ownership team, Tesoro Club’s amenity roster does just that, with plans to promote entertainment and relaxation at every turn. Schlenz is working with the team on the renovations of the Landmark Clubhouse to provide salon and spa services, a fitness center, a golf pro shop, and activities for Members to enjoy.

Tesoro Club’s Swim & Racquet Club will be the first to open with its junior Olympic, 30-meter zero-edge swimming pool, nine tennis courts, eleven pickleball courts, two bocce ball lawns, and casual poolside dining at The Cabanas grill. An upscale casual menu with healthy favorites will be served. A peninsula-shaped outdoor bar will serve cocktails and refreshments poolside with fire pit gathering areas for evening activities.

Schlenz and his team have also coordinated the renovations to Tesoro Club’s two 18-hole championship golf courses designed by Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson. The Palmer course planned to open in fall 2022 and the Watson course is slated for 2024. The course renovations will improve playability for players of all skill levels, with open fairways winding through picturesque natural areas. The community’s luxury homes will never come into play for golfers.

“You can buy a house anywhere, but what you can’t buy anywhere is this lifestyle,” said Schlenz. “At Tesoro Club, future residents and Members can look forward to a robust community that is going to be outfitted with first-class dining, great facilities, golf courses, and more – all just a golf cart ride away.”

Leading a Team of Acclaimed Club Professionals

When it comes to making a coveted golf club lifestyle, however, Schlenz knows that it’s not just a laundry list of amenities that make the club unique. Schlenz is hiring a full team of club professionals to provide a plethora of intuitive Member services. Guy Rettig, a world-class culinarian with over 25 years of leading culinary teams in platinum-rated golf and yacht communities was recently announced as Tesoro Club’s new Executive Chef, curating a menu of locally sourced delights.

Schlenz also wanted to ensure Members would have access to golf and tennis instruction from some of the nation’s best teachers. He recently hired Head Golf Professional Matt Doyle, a PGA Class “A” member and award-winning pro since 1997. Doyle has served as head professional at numerous prestigious private clubs in South Florida and New England before bringing his talents to Tesoro Club. To spearhead Tesoro Club’s extensive racquet program, Schlenz employed Terri Gaskill, a certified USPTA Elite tennis professional with over 30 years of playing and teaching experience. Doyle, Gaskill, and their teams will proudly offer expert evaluation, instruction, tournaments, and events to players of all skill levels.

New Florida Homes on the Horizon

Along with announcing Marco Schlenz as General Manager, Tim Jones’ development team is working with industry-leading builders on an exciting array of new homes. Two of the nation’s top homebuilders, WCI Communities and Toll Brothers, will provide an outstanding selection of residential options, while a selection of custom home builders will offer a limited collection of larger, more personalized homes. Spectacular preserve, golf, or lake views will be the standard for every residence, creating an enviable address focused on indoor/ outdoor Florida living.
